WalnutS

Two ancient walnut trees once grew in our garden hedge. Some years ago one of them collapsed, while the other died and was felled.

Most of the wood from these trees was “piped”, the redundant heartwood eaten away. I cut out the rot and carved what good wood remained. The shapes which revealed themselves cry out to be touched.

When I’m not making furniture to commission, I return to my inspiring but dwindling stock of walnut, a rare and valuable timber and a joy to work.
